Slow Replies ....

Today we celebrate an amazing stride forward for one of our former students and now student teacher; as Heidi releases her debut single ‘Slow Replies’

Heidi is a music artist through and through. Not only is she supremely talented: from the voice, to the musicianship, through to her writing; she is also one of the most determined and hard working young artists we have had the pleasure to work with - an absolute must of a skill for todays music industry. Heidi is an example of what you can achieve when you’re determined to achieve your goals.

Heidi came to us at EVC in 2018. At the same time, she’d recently started her A levels, one of which was in Law; another profession she was interested in, at the time. At EVC, she started with 1:1 coaching with our founder Louisa, with the sole aim of readying herself for college auditions ….. Heidi wanted to study Musical Theatre, at Mountview. In her words “I just wanna play Miss Trunchball!!”

At the same time, she was writing songs here and there, mainly as a form of therapy; and picked up a guitar for the first time, a couple of weeks before we met her. She soon started attending our Songwriting School and formed her first band with some of her fellow writers, as well as writing as a solo artist. Before this point she’d never performed her own music, worked much on her musicianship or considered this a route for herself.

As often happens in 1:1 sessions, we had a conversation about career options after college, which led to the realisation that hers were currently limited on stage in Musical Theatre, probably until much later on in her career. Instead she started looking at music performance as a route. By this time she had been involved in showcases and gigs with us via the Songwriting School. Heidi swiftly dropped her A levels, after applying and successfully auditioning for Music College in London and so the story really ramps up!

We all know the portion of this story that includes 2020. Heidi spent much of college on Zoom, not the best environment for music performance. But this did not stop her. She saw lockdown as an opportunity to catch up with her peers, musically. Plus learn to sing again, after her tonsils were removed last August. She practised her guitar obsessively and took full advantage of the amount of time we were all spending on the internet, by building her online following. This made her TikTok famous and has created a real credible following on YouTube and Instagram.

Fast forward to today and the release of her debut single. Because of her determination, graft and talent, as I write this, Slow Replies had already entered the top 40 on iTunes and was sitting at 31! Unbelievable!!!
