CHARITABLE AIMS

The Song School’s charitable aim is to level access to music making for all children and young people regardless of circumstances, so all can experience the benefits associated with learning and playing music such as enhanced confidence, self-esteem, improved mental wellbeing and academic aspirations.

We have built a community of children & young people bonded by a shared interest in music who attend our central Southend studios through our regular weekly timetable and/or holiday workshop programme. Our programmes address a number of social challenges currently faced by young people.

Huge disparities in participation in extra-curricular activities exist depending on social background

Financial Support

The Song School Fund enables us to support children and young people from low-income families to attend, learn and thrive through music. Whether it’s our regular weekly timetable or supporting them to attend a holiday project.

Community

We have developed a growing community of children and young people, bonded by their shared interest in music, offering a full weekly timetable of affordable music classes and holiday workshops with places supported by The Song School fund so all can attend.

Space

Our central Southend studios are situated within walking distance of all major transport links into the City. We have a number of rooms differing in sizes and functions to enable us to deliver our weekly programme and provide our community with appropriate spaces to create, practice and rehearse

Music Projects

Our holiday music projects are a great way for young people to get involved in some of the many skills that exists in and around music. Our 2023 programme included The Hands Together Project; a partnership with Project Southchurch, reigniting their 2021 project to support themes of togetherness across the City of Southend. Watch the final output below. This project was supported by Arts Council England, Music on Sea and c2c Rail.
